Monica Aparicio Jewelry’s History

It was at the beginning of the 20th century when Grandpa Jesús, just 18 years old, like so many others at that time, emigrated to Cuba. His skill as a watchmaker soon led him to work in the finest jewelry stores in Havana and to make a name for himself among the North Americans visiting the island at the time. He was recommended to Tiffany’s in New York, which called him to join its team.

Thus, he left Havana for the Big Apple only to find that, at the time, immigration to the United States was closed. He decided to stay in the Cuban city of Camagüey, where he ran his first jewelry store at just 26 years old.

He married and lived there until the revolution broke out in 1935, and they decided to return to Spain after the birth of their third son, who succeeded him in the business.

The family settled in Oviedo, where the grandparents already lived, and founded the first Joyería Aparicio. The first premises were located next to the town hall, on Magdalena Street, the downtown those days.

In 1964, Jesús Aparicio Jr. decided to expand the business and move it to the new commercial area, where the city center was shifting. Thus, he opened the store on the corner of Palacio Valdés that would soon become a benchmark for jewelry in Asturias.

Jesús Aparicio Jr., a man of great creativity and business vision, with deep values and immense human qualities, managed to elevate the company to the next level by introducing important fine jewelry and watchmaking brands.

In the 1990s, with the arrival of the third generation, a new store opened on the flourishing Avenida de Galicia, offering a larger and more comfortable space to an increasingly select clientele.

Here, new brands of fine jewelry and watches are offered, advancing more comfortable space to an increasingly select clientele.and fully entering the 21st century.

In 2015, the company decided to give its customers a new direction, permanently closing the former Palacio Valdés location and moving to the heart of the Principality’s capital, next to the Hotel Reconquista.

Here, a new strategy was implemented, based on its own designs inspired by the art and culture of our region, personalized jewelry, and the updating of antique pieces.
